Since the ancient times, the Baltic amber has been valued and considered a symbol of health, happiness, and sun. It is not only beautiful but contains healing and protective properties as well.

The most common uses of the stone were for healing purposes since Baltic amber to be helpful with inflammation and pain, specifically with such issues as migraines, headaches, arthritis, and more. All you have to do is wear it.

Modern scientific studies prove the consistency of many ancient amber treatments.

How does amber work?

Amber is a mineral of organic origin. In essence, this is the fossilized resin of trees that grew near the Baltic sea 30-60 million years ago. The ancient trees fell on the seabed, where over time, the wood turned into brown coal and resin into amber.

Modern medicine uses amber as raw material for obtaining succinic acid, an excellent biostimulator. In addition, succinic acid has antitoxic, anti-inflammatory and anti-stress properties, which makes it an important component in pharmaceuticals.

When worn against your skin continually as a necklace or bracelet, body heat causes the amber to release an oil containing the succinic acid, which when absorbed benefits many ongoing daily conditions. It is particularly well known to help with bone and joint pain, skin conditions, headaches, migraine, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis. Amber also promotes more restful sleep and eases stress.

How to tell the difference between real and fake amber?

  • Drip a drop of alcohol over the surface of your piece. If the surface becomes sticky, chances are it’s copal, the most common amber imitation. Be careful since, with prolonged exposure, alcohol can stain natural amber.
  • Drop amber in salt water (8 to 10 teaspoons of salt per glass of water). Genuine amber has a very low density, so  it will float at the top while most fakes will sink.

How to care for amber?

In a clear glass, dilute a tablespoon of salt in half a glass of water and place your amber in the direct sunlight for 5-6 hours. Then rinse with running water.

Amber beads will make a thoughtful go-to gift for both parents and baby. They last a long time and become a family heirloom.
