In most cases, it’s absolutely possible to learn how to use a carrier independently. However, there are situations where professional guidance can make a big difference in safety, comfort, and confidence:
- When the baby is premature or has a low birth weight (under 3 kg)
- When the baby or the caregiver has a medical condition or limitation (back, joints, shoulders, etc.)
- When the baby is difficult to soothe, cries often, or seems uncomfortable in the carrier
- When there are difficulties with breastfeeding in the carrier or transitioning to back carrying
- If you’ve had a challenging or unsuccessful experience with carriers in the past
- If you’re worried about “doing it wrong” and want more confidence
- When body proportions differ from the average (very small or larger sizes)
- When planning intensive, daily babywearing
- Or simply when you don’t have the time or budget to experiment with multiple carriers and prefer personalized guidance
