Is there a time limit to carry my baby?

How Long Can a Baby Stay in a Carrier?

Carrying in an ergonomic baby carrier mimics the baby’s natural position when held in arms. Therefore, just as there is no maximum time limit for carrying in arms, there is also no strict time limit for using a carrier.

In principle, a baby can be carried for many hours throughout the day.

During the first months (up to around 3 months of age), it is recommended to include short breaks. As a general guideline, take the baby out of the carrier approximately every 1.5 hours for a 5–10 minute break, allowing time for stretching, movement, and a change of position.

It is important to emphasize that there is no need to wake a sleeping baby just to take them out of the carrier. Instead, wait for a natural wake-up and use that opportunity for a short break, diaper change, and feeding if needed.

As the baby grows and becomes stronger, the duration of continuous carrying can gradually increase. Around six months of age, it is usually possible to carry for up to about 3 hours at a time.

Key takeaway
There is no strict maximum carrying time in an ergonomic baby carrier. Follow your baby’s needs, include occasional breaks during the first months, and allow sleeping babies to rest undisturbed.
